Already two thousand years ago a Greek writer Athenaios, in his work ''Banquet of the Learned'', wrote on Dalmatian wines: ''On the island of Vis a wine is produced that no other wine equals''.
In time wine-growing has become one of the main production sectors in Dalmatia who considers its wines, and deservedly so, to be the best. Plenty of sun and warmth and the rocky soil (limestone and red soil – terra rossa) that the grapevines are grown and cultivated on guarantee quality and full taste of wine.
Among the numerous wine production associations today Dalmacijavino d.d. Split is one of the most prominent. The first legal predecessor of Dalmacijavino was Vinalko – the company established back in 1946 aiming to engage the wine production facilities that were still found existing after World War II. After a number of transformations, finally in 1963 was established a new, consolidated company - Dalmacijavino, the company for production, processing, final processing and trade with agricultural products.
Dalmacijavino owns cellars equiped with modern tecnology facilities for production and processing of wine. It is also in posession of a great number of vineyards.
Within the company structure are also wineries and vineyards in the area of Petrovo Polje in Drniš and Hvar Wineries in Stari Grad and Jelsa on the island of Hvar. Apart from wine, the company also produces spirits and soft drinks. In the soft drinks product division the most popular is orange juice Pipi, the product which became a kind of the company's trademark.
Dalmacijavino has a wide sales network in Croatia (Split, Zagreb, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar and Dubrovnik), but also sells its products throughout the world, with Europe being the most important market. The highest export sales volumes are sold in Germany, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, USA and some other countries.
Favourable soil conditions, sea and the sun of Dalmatia, including, of course, irreplaceable human factor, are all essential resources that give our products the indelible touch of genuine quality which makes them so special.
